Trim video

Cut a video down to the part you need. Drag the handles, preview, and download.

How to trim a video

  1. Drop your video onto the box above, or click it to choose it. MP4 and MOV from phones and cameras, WebM, and MKV all work.
  2. Drag the two handles under the video to where the clip should start and end, or type the times. Press “Set to playhead” to use the current spot in the video.
  3. Press “Play selection” to check the clip.
  4. Choose “Fast” to keep the full quality, or “Exact” to cut on the exact frame, then press “Trim”.

Everything happens in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab clears it all.

Questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is cut in your browser, on your device, so even large videos don’t need to upload first and private clips stay private.

What is the difference between Fast and Exact?

Fast copies the original video data, so there is no quality loss and it takes seconds, but the cut snaps to the nearest keyframe (often up to a couple of seconds). Exact re-encodes the clip so it starts and ends on the exact frame you picked; it takes longer.

Can I cut a video for WhatsApp or Instagram?

Yes. Trim it to the length you need; the trimmed file keeps the same format as the original, so it plays in the same apps.

Why won’t my video preview?

Some formats, such as MKV or HEVC videos in some browsers, can’t be previewed but can often still be trimmed. Type the start and end times instead, or try Chrome or Safari.
