Trim audio

Cut a song, voice note, or recording down to the part you need.

How to trim an audio file

  1. Drop your audio file onto the box above, or click it to choose it. MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, and FLAC all work, including phone voice recordings.
  2. Drag the two handles on the waveform to where the clip should start and end, or type the times.
  3. Press “Play selection” to hear the clip.
  4. Press “Trim”. The shorter file downloads in the same format as the original.

Everything happens in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, and closing the tab clears it all.

Questions

Is my audio uploaded?

No. The audio is cut in your browser, on your device. Recordings and songs are never sent anywhere.

Can I make a ringtone?

Yes. Trim the part you want, usually under 30 seconds. iPhones need ringtones in M4R format: trim an M4A file and rename the result to .m4r.

Does trimming lower the sound quality?

“Fast” copies the original audio exactly, with no quality loss. “Exact” re-encodes it to cut at the precise moment, which can change the quality very slightly.
